Olivia Swinson is an Athens, Georgia-based artist who makes acrylic paintings about tensions in familiar and romantic relationships and self-awareness. The paintings depict an internal struggle within itself about these complex relationships through the consistent visual walls the audience is confronted with. Swinson’s works stylistically range from geometric abstraction to graphical figuration. She uses old family photos as references along with video game characters, in-game color pallets, and comic book panels to create the general subject and feeling for each painting. Swinson uses media outside of Art, such as indie-horror games and contemporary music, to generate ideas. Her series WOULDN’T IT BE BEAUTIFUL? was shown at the Lamar Dodd School of Art in the Liminal: BFA Exit Show in April 2024.
