WOULDN’T IT BE BEAUTIFUL?
WOULDN’T IT BE BEAUTIFUL? is a series of paintings done by Olivia Swinson for her BFA Exit Show, Liminal, shown at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia in April 2024. This series explores an ambivalent feeling of living in the world as the works confront the question, “What would I look like if I were free?”, as prompted in the painting, “in my basement”. By using personal photographs, references to popular media, found fabric, and large color blocks Swinson establishes a contemporary way of approaching these existential questions.
